The LA mayor's race remains tight — at least for second place.
Karen Bass is in a commanding lead with 35 percent of the vote. The top two finishers will advance to the runoff election this fall.
Spencer Pratt's lead over Nithya Raman has narrowed as vote-by-mail ballots are counted. He's at 29 percent; she's at 23 percent. Mail-in ballots appear to be leaning Democrat, as usual in California.
We should note that Spencer Pratt is only still in the race because of the last-minute decision by Nithya Raman to run for mayor. She drew a significant chunk of Karen Bass's support.
It is very likely that Bass would have finished above 50 percent had Raman — a democratic socialist — not siphoned off votes from the left side of the spectrum. 53 percent of LA voters went for the two left-wingers. And that total would have been enough to send Pratt back to reality television work.
