Bigger boulders rushed to Point Dume as revetment fails
LA County is reinforcing a rock revetment it just finished, after waves tossed the first batch of rocks around like bowling balls.

At Point Dume, more rock trucks were arriving all day Monday carrying big boulders to be dropped on top of the smaller rocks placed along the road earlier this year.
Cameron Wellwood, a longtime surfer who has been documenting the rock revetment construction, tells KBUU News that earlier efforts by LA County to protect Point Dume Beach and its access road have failed.
The first rocks were too small as coastal armoring goes, and the big waves have knocked them around like bowling balls.
That observation is borne out by what we saw Monday — truck after truck hauling bigger boulders passed by the Sunset Restaurant and drove down to the point, where they're being dropped onto the older, smaller rocks.
We've not been able to contact the County Department of Beaches and Harbors yet to find out why they're having to rebuild and fortify a rock revetment they just finished.
