City council to discuss Palisades Fire lawsuit in closed session
Malibu is suing Los Angeles, the state, MRCA and others over the Palisades Fire. State Parks, also a defendant, will brief the council the same night.
This afternoon, the city council goes into secret session to discuss its lawsuit against the City of Los Angeles, the state of California, the MRCA and other agencies for causing the Palisades Fire.
The MRCA is the Mountains Recreation and Conservation Authority, the parks agency that may have helped spread the fire by failing to cut weeds on its property near the fire's origin in Temescal Canyon.
One tenth of Malibu burned down, 7 people in and near Malibu were killed, and the city government is out tens of millions of dollars in actual damages.
One of the agencies being sued by the city is California State Parks. Ironically, California State Parks is also scheduled to appear before the city council tonight at 6:30 to talk about their fire prevention efforts.
State Parks owns much of the land outside the city limits, not to mention the Malibu Lagoon and Malibu Bluffs Park area. There have been several fires at Bluffs Park, on state land, that have claimed houses in Malibu.
That report is scheduled to be delivered at 6:30 tonight and it will be streamed online.
