At least three people were injured Tuesday when a small delivery truck rear-ended traffic that had stopped for the signal at Billionaire's Beach at the Malibu Sands crosswalk.
The truck slammed into the car in front of it with enough force to accordion it and send it into the vehicle in front of it. The unlucky drivers who got hit had been stopped in the left lane of traffic.
The crash was severe enough that the truck rode up over the car that had stopped. The truck lost its front wheels, and its engine and frame scraped down the road, coming to rest in the parking lane.
The truck was empty, but the demolished undercarriage was leaking hydraulic fluid, brake fluid, coolant and oil — a major pollution issue right next to the beach. L.A. County Health came in to sop up puddles of contaminants that were accumulating next to the drain. The right lane of the road was closed for hours.
The crash happened at 6:33 a.m. Wednesday. Both lanes headed east toward Santa Monica were blocked, and rush hour traffic was snarled all morning as drivers were directed around the wreckage via the center left-turn lane.
This crash may also have been a case of driver inattention.
Coincidentally, this crash happened just east of where Sunday's fatal collision happened.
As for the Saturday fatality, no charges have been announced yet against the 16-year-old boy involved. His name has been publicized by reporters working for what we consider unethical yellow journalism sites — specifically the California Post and its evil parent, ther New York Post.
Reputable news organizations do not name children accused of crimes, unless there is a danger to the community. No charges have been filed by the district attorney or sheriff's office from that fatal crash.
It is this radio station's policy not to name children who may have been involved in traffic crashes and who have not been charged with anything.
