A major, long-lasting heat wave will persist in Malibu Wednesday, Thursday, and probably into Saturday, with dangerously high temperatures. Highs Wednesday will be 85 on the beach, 91 on the inland side of PCH, and 100 in the Santa Monica Mountains.
Some cooling may develop in the next few days. Leftover moisture from Hurricane Raymond brings an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms Thursday and Friday, and a decent chance of showers is emerging for Sunday, with a 10% chance of thunderstorms because of the heat.
Monday there's a chance for real rain. A winter-style low pressure front is moving down the California coast from the Pacific Ocean off Oregon — normally called a cold front, but it's too hot for that. L.A. County could see up to three-quarters of an inch of rain, maybe more in the mountains near Pasadena. High temperatures next week will be in the 60s.
For Wednesday: sunny and hot, with highs of 85 at the water, 91 along Pacific Coast Highway, and 100 in the cities over the hill. Breezes 15 miles an hour in the afternoon. Overnight lows 78 on the beaches, 61 in the Santa Monica Mountains, with colder pockets possibly going below that. Thursday, highs 83 on the beach and 97 in the mountains. Sunset Wednesday at 6:31 p.m.
