Just down the hallway, a different federal judge ruled that Bill Essayli is unlawfully serving as the top federal prosecutor in Los Angeles. This is because the U.S. Senate has twice failed to confirm him.
The judge disqualified Essayli from overseeing two criminal cases. U.S. District Court Judge Michael Seabright wrote that Essayli is unlawfully serving as a de facto United States attorney.
The U.S. Senate has twice decided not to confirm Essayli as the U.S. attorney for Southern California, but that has not stopped him from portraying himself as having that job.
