LA County proposes new two-story Malibu library

With $30 million or so set aside for library services, LA County is proposing to tear down the existing Malibu Library and build a modern two-story complex at the same site. The City Council has been given two architectural renderings of possible new library structures on Civic Center Way.
But this leaves open some major questions, like what is the eventual future of the abandoned LA County courthouse next door. It is now controlled by the state court system, but it was closed 20 years ago and the courts show no sign of reopening it.
The library item is on the agenda for the next Malibu City Council meeting Monday. There's a chance there might be a new City Council member or two, so don't expect any decisions very soon in any case.
