Malibu High graduates 105 seniors on football field

Senior class president Ella Stabile praised the resilience of a class that did homework in evacuation zones, with 95 percent heading to college.

Malibu High School graduated 105 seniors yesterday. Parents, other family members, and teachers sat in the picture-perfect breeze on the school's football field.

The school — barely recognizable in places — changed enormously with the construction of a new campus over the last four years, since these kids entered.

The senior class president, Ella Stabile, was the graduation speaker.

"In the midst of this world of chaos, Malibu has always been a sanctuary," Stabile said. "Even in times of community struggle we still find resilience from within, and that's something I value most about this small town."

"We discovered early on that resilience isn't something that you read about — it's something that you practice when you're doing homework in an evacuation zone. But we also learned that after the wildfires, wildflowers still showed up, and so did we. Sometimes a little late, but we still showed up. Sorry, Mr. Evanson."

"What other schools have a straight view of the ocean, right from their classrooms? What other students experience the smell of sea breezes walking to class from the parking lot while seeing the sparkling white off the water? The stillness and serenity is something I will miss, and I hope this class will carry with them as we all disperse across the globe facing arguably our best and most chaotic years, yet to come."

Of the 105 graduating seniors, 95 percent are heading to college.

The 12 valedictorian candidates this year, with their destination colleges:

Aidan Colburn, UCLA. Christopher Hilling, Santa Monica College. Ethan Miller, Colorado State University. Rayan Mirmohammadsadeghi, UC Santa Barbara. William Mullally. Cooper Rose, UC Berkeley. Nina Sichte, UCLA. Ceylon Zappa, Cal State Monterey Bay.

Congratulations to the Malibu High School class of 2026.
