Pacific Surfliner adds daily Ventura-Santa Barbara commuter trains
Six daily trips begin next month, with a new morning train timed for commuters from Camarillo and Ventura.
Daily commuter rail service from just up the road from Malibu — from Ventura County to Santa Barbara — will start next month.
Pacific Surfliner trains will now make six daily trips to Santa Barbara and Goleta, with three of those continuing north to San Luis Obispo. This will make it even easier to bypass the daily traffic jams on the 101 freeway on the coastal route.
A morning train that is being added is timed for commuters, timed to depart Camarillo. With departures from Ventura just before 7, and arrivals in Santa Barbara at around 8. The morning train ends at Goleta, up near the UC campus.
A midafternoon train back to Ventura County has been added, but the existing late afternoon train is better timed for workers.
It may seem odd for people in Malibu, but the new train service makes it ever more possible to commute from here to UC Santa Barbara or other employment centers in Santa Barbara.
Speaking of Santa Barbara — United Airlines has just added a daily roundtrip flight from Santa Barbara to Chicago O'Hare. Southwest Airlines also flies that route.
