Malibu has so far escaped the tidal surge topped by hurricanes, Kelvin waves, and the moon, but the Zuma Beach flooding that came in Friday is expected to repeat this weekend.
The pier at Paradise Cove, built in 1945, lost some poles at the surf line and partially collapsed Friday. Work crews were bringing in trucks of sand, and cement mixers were arriving, late in the day.
Waves were observed slashing over decks and washing up against sliding glass windows at Escondido Beach.
The damaged, privately-owned pier was the largest damage apparent during the day, but reports from private beachfront landowners will be coming in over the next few days.
It appears that Malibu escaped the disastrous, widespread flooding of beach communities from Long Beach to Newport Beach.
At high tide Friday morning, water was topping the side curbs on PCH at several locations in eastern Malibu, and pooling on the side of Pacific Coast Highway.
KBUU News has not received any reports yet of further damage or wave intrusion on PCH west of Malibu.
There were no reports of any damage at Malibu Pier or the Adamson House Friday, but that was not independently verified.
