PCH Crashes Absent From Public Safety Commission Agenda

Malibu's Public Safety Commission meets at 5 p.m. but cannot discuss the recent Westward Beach Road crashes — they aren't on the agenda.

Malibu's Public Safety Commission meets today at 5 p.m. What's not on the agenda is the recent pair of traffic crashes on Pacific Coast Highway at Westward Beach Road.

The months-long closure of the Zuma Beach underpass has caused a huge increase in cross traffic — cars turning onto and off of PCH at the dangerous intersection.

Caltrans officials said this week that they are considering installing a traffic light, or a roundabout, at the tight series of intersections east of Zuma Creek.

Again, that is not on the agenda. And while members of the public are allowed to speak about anything they want, California's open meetings law is very strict. No discussion is allowed on things that are not on the agenda.

And PCH safety is not on the agenda.
