San Diego weighs charging out-of-town beach parkers
A proposed tax on non-resident coastal visitors would need Coastal Commission approval — an unlikely prospect with obvious Malibu implications.

The San Diego City Council is proposing to charge beach visitors for the privilege of parking on city streets and in city parking lots — but only beach visitors from out of town, not San Diego residents.
San Diego faces an enormous budget crunch. Apparently there is some sort of fantasy down there that the California Coastal Commission would approve the tax on coastal visitors.
Yeah, right.
The implications for Malibu are obvious. We'll keep you posted on San Diego's efforts to tax ocean visitors, and how the Coastal Commission reacts.
