Santa Ana winds and heat hit Malibu through Sunday

Gusts up to 50 mph are expected in the mountains today, with warming through the weekend before a Monday cooldown.

weather

Hot Santa Ana winds have already arrived at the mountaintops above Malibu, with gusts up to 30 miles an hour coming from the north right now at Castro Peak, above Kanan Road.

Santa Ana winds are expected to intensify and drop in elevation, hitting the Malibu coastal area between 8 this morning and 2 this afternoon. Winds coming out of the mountains are predicted to be at 20 to 25 miles per hour by late this morning. Gusts up there may hit 50 miles an hour later this morning.

The winds will drop in elevation as they move into the area. Some places, like Point Dume, may not get any wind.

But everyone will see significant warming today through Sunday — like up around 82 degrees up in the mountains. A cooling trend will begin Monday with temperatures back to near normal around mid-week.
