Santa Monica cancels Ocean Way Festival after Hurricane Marie
Goldenvoice pulls the plug on the two-day beachfront concert after storm surf washed out the sand south of the pier.

Santa Monica was going to have a big music festival in two weeks. Goldenvoice, the promoter behind Coachella and Stagecoach, had rented the beach south of the pier for Ocean Way. They called it the Ocean Way Festival.
Concerts featured the Killers, Jack White, Khruangbin, Sublime and other killer bands. Goldenvoice billed it as a celebration of music, food, wellness, design, sustainability and beach culture.
Notice the use of past tense. The Ocean Way Festival has been canceled.
Storm surf and runoff from Hurricane Marie caused significant beach erosion, organizers told ticket holders Friday. The two-day beachfront music festival was scheduled for Sept. 26-27. The city canceled the event, say the organizers. The beach has largely washed out south of the pier.
"Due to the impacts of Hurricane Marie, the City of Santa Monica has canceled the inaugural Ocean Way Festival," organizers said in an email sent to ticket holders. "Storm surf and runoff has caused significant beach erosion and the festival can no longer be safely held as planned."
Goldenvoice says plans are already underway to bring the festival back to Santa Monica in 2027.
