SCE customers to get $72 credits — but the money is from the state
Malibu residents will see two $72 credits on their power bills, funded by California's carbon tax, not Southern California Edison.

Malibu residents can expect a $72 credit on their power bills this month and a similar $72 credit next month.
Although Southern California Edison is claiming credit for the rebates, they are actually coming from the state.
California places a tax on greenhouse gas emitted by oil refineries, power plants, factories and other big emitters of air pollution. The tax is an incentive for the big industries to reduce the amount of gas they pump into the atmosphere. Some of that money is designated for consumers to offset their higher energy costs.
That money will be distributed this month and next in the form of $72 rebates on electric bills. The rebates come from the state's carbon tax offsets.
For SCE to claim credit for the rebates is somewhat disingenuous at best — more accurately, it is dishonest.
