SCE quietly drops power outage warnings after no winds materialize Play

Southern California Edison quietly dropped its warnings of possible intentional power outages — issued Tuesday, disappearing Wednesday. No power was ever cut.

And it's not clear why the company sent out the warnings in the first place. No winds were predicted then. No winds developed overnight. And the forecast for Thursday is dead calm.

SCE cried "wolf."

But because SCE issued the warning, it now has to explain to the state exactly what happened. That report is due in 30 days — and typically, those reports are not very revealing.

For some reason, SCE announced Tuesday that power outages might be implemented on the Plateau Circuit. That's the area from Malibu Creek State Park north through Calabasas on both sides of Las Virgenes and up to and past the 101 freeway.

The power company's automated notices spread into Malibu, where people with storage batteries were notified that SCE had issued power blackout warnings as far south as Zuma Beach.
