Trump's history of feuding with the Coastal Commission
The president has held up $40 billion in wildfire aid and moved to defund the Coastal Commission, which once ordered him to permit a flagpole.

Ten years ago, the Coastal Commission told Donald Trump he had illegally installed a 70-foot flagpole at his Palos Verdes golf course. The Coastal Commission ordered him to follow the law by getting a permit and paying a fee.
Last year, the Trump administration floated the idea of defunding the Coastal Commission. He is still holding $40 billion in wildfire disaster aid for California as hostage.
This spring, Trump’s Commerce Department initiated a review of the California Coastal Management Program’s federal certification and funding, claiming that it is a hotbed of “obstructionist policies,” “unfounded objections,” “environmental extremism,” and “bad faith.”
In Sacramento, Secretary Crowfoot calls that part of Trump’s retribution against California.
