Trump's new press secretary is Pepperdine Law grad with uncertain credentials
Katie Zacharia has described herself as an attorney, but she is not licensed in California and no record of a bar passage elsewhere is known.

President Donald Trump says he has hired a new lawyer to be his new press secretary, and she has a Malibu connection. Katie Zacharia is a graduate of Pepperdine University Law School from the era when it was headed by former dean Kenneth Starr. Pepperdine is a Christian-affiliated university generally considered one of the nation's most conservative law schools.
Both Trump and Zacharia have described her as an attorney. The San Francisco Chronicle reports that on social media she has called herself a practiced international transactional lawyer with all the appropriate credentials, and Fix California, a conservative nonprofit political action group, has listed her as its general counsel — a term that generally refers to a licensed attorney.
But she is not licensed in California, and there is no known record of her passing the bar in any other state. It is against California law to claim to be a lawyer or to practice law without being licensed by a state bar. Developing story.
