Waterworks breaks ground on Carbon Mesa water main

Project will replace aging, undersized lines that have blocked some Carbon Mesa Road building approvals.

news

L.A. County Waterworks broke ground on a new water main project in eastern Malibu yesterday.

The project will replace ancient, leaky and too-small water lines on Carbon Mesa Road. Some landowners up there have been unable to get building plans approved because of inadequate water supply from L.A. County.

Yesterday, county Supervisor Lindsay Horvath made some general statements for the TV cameras.

Construction was supposed to begin last January 21. There was no word as to why the project is late.

Traffic on the dead-end road may be delayed significantly. Customers will be notified of any scheduled water service interruption at least 24 hours in advance.

This comes as L.A. County Waterworks is asking for a rate hike of 34 percent. By the end of five years, the average water bill in Malibu would go up from $228 to $306 per month.
