The Bryson Fire remains at 146 acres and 17 percent containment as of 8 a.m. Friday, with about 100 houses directly under threat. That threat could grow as winds increase through the day.
No structures have been lost. One firefighter suffered minor injuries. 414 firefighters are assigned to the blaze.
No fire — not even an orange glow — was visible at sunrise from Trancas, six miles south of the fire. Some crews are entering the "mop up" phase. Superscoopers are still working the fire this morning.
Cal Fire, Ventura County Fire, CHP, the Office of Emergency Management and the American Red Cross are assisting L.A. County Fire. A red flag warning for critical fire conditions remains in effect through Saturday.
The fire is burning between Mulholland Highway to the north and Encinal Canyon Road to the south. It is west of the juvenile detention center, which has been evacuated, and east of the abandoned Malibu Country Club. There was no major fire spread overnight.
Wind gusts were less than 40 mph overnight but hit 43 mph at 4:30 a.m. Overnight gusts at the fire crept up from around 35 mph to 42 mph by 4 a.m.
No evacuation orders have been issued inside city limits. A Stage 2 "get set to go" recommendation remains for the city of Malibu west of Corral Canyon Road.
The Sheriff is warning looters that undercover deputies are working in power shut-off areas. "If you think you are going to take advantage of these poor poor folks who have evacuated, you are going to be challenged."
