Council member demands crackdown on Wednesday night canyon racing

A Malibu city council member is publicly asking the sheriff's department to crack down on Wednesday evening racing in the canyons and on PCH.
Council member Haylynn Conrad says there is a systematic public safety failure — for the city's contracted police agency to fail to put a stop to the Wednesday night racing.
Conrad says residents up Las Flores Canyon have been suffering from racers who arrive every Wednesday night like clockwork. She says that, after entering Malibu city limits from the county, the loud cars race along PCH, create unbearable noise and endanger residents.
Conrad says the drivers come to Malibu believing they can race through the city without meaningful consequences, and treat the city like a video game, a racetrack, their personal playground.
The council member asked the city manager to ask the city's police force — the L.A. County Sheriff's Office — to target Wednesday night racing with a stakeout and enforcement operation. Conrad wants the sheriff's department positioned at the bottom of Las Flores.
"These drivers should be stopped, cited and fined for every applicable violation," she said.
Conrad also asked the city manager for a report at the next city council meeting detailing the enforcement efforts taken, the number of stops and citations issued, whether any vehicles were impounded, and what continued operation will be put in place.

Please be aware there are cars that race along PCH parallel to civic center way where there is an incline on pch. I heard them race above 90 miles an hour where there is 4 condominiums are located We need to have a police officer stationed among the trees that block our ocean view! Make use of those trees. Thank you and a resident for 30 years. We need a department of environmental safety who has a EHS 3 officer
