The Malibu Chili Cook-Off is returning this Labor Day.
After a hiatus caused by the fire, the Boys and Girls Club of Malibu has announced it will once again hold the carnival over Labor Day weekend.
Boys and Girls Club director Casey Ernst says the event will be similar to years past — carnival, world-class chili competition, local and outside food vendors, and a wine and beer garden.
"We have two changes that are coming this year that are going to be very exciting," Ernst said. "This year we're going to be doing community education and preparedness. We're going to be about fire preparedness. There will be engaging activities for kids and adults, part of our commitment to community education and preparedness moving forward. It will include local brigade members and other partners."
"And then Aviator Nation is coming in as our music partner this year, very exciting. They will be running the Dreamland stage with music at a booth."
So the Chili Cook-Off will be back — that is, if they get their city permit. The Boys and Girls Club of Malibu goes before the city planning commission for that. The Chili Cook-Off permit has been added to the lengthy agenda facing the planning commission Monday night at 6:30 at city hall.
