PCH gets state 'Catalyst Priority Safety Corridor' designation
Caltrans label brings no new money, but comes a day before Election Day as the current transportation secretary becomes a lame duck.

Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, Pacific Palisades, and Santa Monica has received a major state award. It was designated a Catalyst Priority Safety Corridor by Caltrans.
What does that mean? Pretty much nothing. It does not mean more money is coming to Pacific Coast Highway. The state is already spending tens of millions of dollars for emergency fire and flood repairs, and $154 million is already set aside in state gas tax money to rebuild PCH from the Santa Monica Tunnel to the Ventura County line.
So what does this super-duper extra-special Catalyst Priority Safety Corridor designation mean? We're going to have a new governor in office as of January 4, and that makes the current transportation secretary a lame duck. This is probably his way of giving PCH the type of recognition that it deserves one day before Election Day, as a message for the next governor and the next state transportation secretary.
Drive safely on your Catalyst Priority Safety Corridor.
