Sea Level Drive repairs may take another four weeks Play

An update on the Sea Level Drive evacuation issue: 31 houses remain evacuated and it may take another four weeks to finish emergency repairs. Sixty feet of the street Sea Level Drive is undermined by the ocean.

Most of the crisis work has been done. Now it's designing somewhat more permanent repairs, with engineers reviewing those.

City building official Yolanda Bundy: "We're working with the design professionals and the property owners to address everything as an immediate response, issuing permits. We have been pressing at the site every day, Saturday and Sunday, so we can reassure you that communication — not only with the homeowner association, the owners, and all of our agency partners — has been there since day one."

Sixty feet of the beachfront road is undermined. Three houses have their driveways and septic systems either collapsed or damaged, and one is totally destroyed. Malibu's building safety team says they're still keeping a nervous eye on several other locations where erosion from waves has already occurred.
