Republicans in Congress went down in an ocean of blue votes, including here in Malibu. GOP candidate Larry Thompson was trying for the third time to win a seat in Congress from the Malibu area. His opponent this time was Brad Sherman. Thompson got 31% of the vote, less than half of the 69% for Sherman.
Likewise, Ted Nordblum got blasted by Democrat Deborah Klein Lopez in the race to become the state assembly member from the Santa Monica Mountains region. Klein Lopez got 58%, Nordblum 42%.
In the Ventura County portion of Malibu up in the Santa Monica Mountains, the new assembly member is Democrat Jackie Irwin. She got 57% of the vote.
