Pedestrian killed in pre-dawn PCH crash at Leo Carrillo
A person was killed just after 4:30 a.m. on a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway where other fatal crashes have occurred.
Lanes have reopened on Pacific Coast Highway, where another person was killed in a traffic crash early this morning.
The crash happened just after 4:30 a.m. at Leo Carrillo Beach, just west of Malibu, where the highway makes a series of curves at a popular roadside parallel parking area for surfers and beachgoers. Reports of the crash came in at 4:41 a.m.
Until about 7:30 a.m., four of the five lanes of highway were blocked off for the crash investigation. Eastbound PCH lanes were closed at Mulholland Highway, with traffic apparently directed to share the westbound lanes.
This is one of several fatal crashes along PCH at the hill just east of the park entrance. PCH traffic at 55 miles per hour negotiates through a set of S-curves with a hill and heavy parallel parking usage on the right side of the road.
This is also the location where the California Coastal Commission has been advocating for parking restrictions — red curb — to be removed.
