Two pedestrians killed in PCH crashes near Leo Carrillo

Two fatal car-versus-pedestrian crashes 16 hours apart shut down lanes of Pacific Coast Highway near Leo Carrillo Beach.

news

There was a second fatal car-versus-pedestrian crash on Pacific Coast Highway at Leo Carrillo Beach last night.

At about 8:30 p.m., a person was hit near PCH at Mulholland Highway. The lanes in both directions were closed for a short time while investigators did their work.

This was just 16 hours after a pedestrian was hit and killed, also on Pacific Coast Highway at Leo Carrillo Beach. That happened at 4:30 in the morning yesterday. Some of the lanes on the westbound road were closed for four hours while investigators worked on that one.

As of last night, there was no information as to the identity of the first victim — whether it was an early morning surfer or a homeless person who has been seen in the area. But as of last night's crash, firefighters told the CHP that they had seen a homeless man walking along Pacific Coast Highway just before the fatal crash with a shopping cart.

Neither name has been released by the L.A. County coroner's office. The CHP is still looking for witnesses to both the 4:30 a.m. and the 8:30 p.m. fatal crashes.

Both crashes happened just to the west of the Malibu city limits, inside Point Mugu State Park.
