The man accused in the death of a pro-Israel demonstrator during a heated confrontation at a sidewalk protest just over the hill is taking a plea deal.

The defendant says it was an accident during a tussle with a cellphone and a bullhorn, and that no death was intended.

Loay Alnaji will serve a maximum of one year in jail, followed by three years on probation.

This case made worldwide headlines when the death occurred two years ago.

The defense attorney, Ron Bamieh, told the Ventura County Star that his client took a guilty plea and probation rather than risk that a jury would send him to prison.
